⚠️ Where leaving sellers get burned
- Never hand over the car before the ownership transfer (registo) is filed — until then fines, tolls and the annual IUC are legally yours
- The buyer "will do the paperwork later" is the classic trap — insist on registering the transfer together, it can be done online the same day
- Cancel or transfer your insurance only after the registo is confirmed
- A car with a loan or lien (penhora) on it cannot be transferred — clear it first
